In the News: "Creativity Becomes an Academic Discipline"

Posted: February 6, 2014

SUNY Buffalo State has "the nation's oldest creative studies program, having offered courses in it since 1967,” the New York Times reported online on February 5. The article, “Learning to Think Outside the Box,” by Laura Pappano, describes the growth of creative studies in a number of universities and an assortment of disciplines ranging from business to nursing. In December, Pappano spent a day on campus talking to faculty and students about Buffalo State’s program.

Gerard Puccio, professor and chair of Buffalo State’s International Center for Studies in Creativity, told Pappano, “The reality is to survive in a fast-changing world you need to be creative…the marketplace is demanding it.”
